The Open Society Foundation and the Centre for Criminology of the University of Hong Kong organized a workshop on Human Rights and Drug Policy in East Asia at the University of Hong Kong in Hong Kong SAR from Oct. 31 to Nov. 4.
The workshop was attended by representatives from government, the academe, media, non-government and civil society organizations from all over Asia, including Hong Kong SAR, Indonesia, Myanmar, Thailand, Nepal, China, Sri Lanka and the Philippines. HLAF’s Program Officer, Atty. Kristoffer Claudio, and Regional Jail Decongestion Officer, Atty. Mary Catherine Alvarez, were among the participants from the Philippines.
The workshop provided training on human rights and the evolution of drug policies as well as case studies of drug policies from various countries all over the world and how it has affected specific sectors and concerns such as women, HIV/AIDS and public health.
