It is evident that the Female PDLs are enthusiastic to share their perspective towards the chance to talk to them about matters that concerns them the most. It is distinctive that they learned a lot from the established program of the Humanitarian Legal Assistance Foundation, Inc. because they emphasized that HLAF were able to release 3 individuals within the day through the Paralegal Aide Program.
During the interview, the Female PDLs coursed through their experiences by answering the questions asked by the HLAF members. The most memorable answer regarding the question, “what has been the effect or impact to the remaining years of the PDLs, and how is it able to help you from being a PDL, and what are the challenges? Yet, a Female PDL answered, “I am very thankful because I do not have any idea about paralegal aide, but because of this, I am able to understand the basics od the topics taught to us, even though they are written in English, I am still able to understand through the help of the USC Students, also they always give me a hard copy.”
The Female PDLs also emphasized that there is a Legal Health Desk, which caters their questions and concerns, specially if they cannot grasp the idea of a subject. Through the help of the other inmates, there were several of them that undergo the mode of release, wherein there are activities that reduces their penalty, and it shows that it motivates them to do their best to have that time allowance. The Female PDLs that were interviewed by HLAF conducts their own TCMP, in which they are allowed to share their learnings from the Therapy Community, it is consists of PowerPoint, and handouts which is shared to other inmates—if there are questions asked to them, and they are not sure on what to answer, they eventually reach out to an officer to ask for guidance.
Hence, it is undeniable that teamwork and hard work also happens in jails. Their ability to inspire each other is definite. Everything just goes around helping each other to not feel alone and lonely. Through HLAF, they believe that hope exists, and it is within them to reach it.
