In partnership with Malabon City Government through the City Social Welfare and Development Department, Center for Restorative Action (CRA) of Humanitarian Legal Assistance Foundation, Inc. (HLAF)
conducted its Barangay Council for the Protection of Children (BCPC) training on Restorative Justice Advocates Organizing Skills (Module 3A) as its final training for the BCPC of Brgy. Longos and Brgy. Tañong last June 13- 14 at the Penthouse of Malabon City Hall.
On the first day of the training, the CRA Team query for ideas of the participants from BCPC Brgy. Longos and Brgy. Tañong about Restorative Justice. The team also prepared a workshop on volunteerism and the discussion was led by HLAF Community Organizer Ms. Carmelita B. Torrefiel and tackled volunteerism to the participants.
Under the BCPC Restorative Justice Advocates Organizing Skills Training as well, HLAF Community Organizer, Mr. Kio de la Peña, discussed community organizing with the participants from Brgy. Longos and Brgy. Tañong.
The discussion on child participation addresses the organizing of the Barangay Children and Youth Association (BCYA) and the talk was led by HLAF Senior Social Worker, Mr. Luis L. Singgangan, RSW on the second day of the Module 3A training. It was followed by the lecture from the Executive Director of HLAF, Atty. Rommel Alim Abitria, about restorative justice.
“HLAF is expecting every participating barangay that when they finished the training, their BCPC will not only be structured but they will also be responsive in regards with the needs of the community especially those who have special needs like the children at risk and children in conflict with the law,” said Ms. Claudette A. Almadin, RSW, HLAF Senior Community Organizer, as she noted the importance of taking the three phases of BCPC training.
The Restorative Justice Advocates Organizing Skills Training is the last string of CRA training for BCPC. It is essential for the BCPC members to learn community organizing for the sustainability of implementation on their own community what they learned in the training. It is also for the functionality and effectiveness of their BCPC and to indulge more volunteers to be restorative justice advocates.
