The Humanitarian Legal Assistance Foundation (HLAF) continues its advocacy to protect the rights and welfare of vulnerable children through meaningful partnerships. In an exploratory meeting with the Provincial Government of Sorsogon, represented by Public Administrator Franco Eric O. Ravanilla on behalf of Governor Jose Edwin B. Hamor, HLAF introduced key initiatives aimed at empowering duty bearers in addressing the needs of Children at Risk (CAR) and Children in Conflict with the Law (CICL), on August 30, 2024.
During the meeting, HLAF discussed its activities under the Center for Restorative Action program, which is designed to enhance the legal knowledge and case management skills of local authorities and organizations working with CAR and CICL.
These programs focus on improving protocols for handling cases involving children, ensuring that interventions prioritize the children’s best interests and their rights under national and international laws.
Mr. Ravanilla acknowledged the importance of such initiatives and highlighted the province’s ongoing efforts to support vulnerable sectors, particularly children.
This potential collaboration between HLAF and the Provincial Government of Sorsogon marks a significant step towards capacitating duty bearers to better respond to the needs of CAR and CICL. It underscores a shared commitment to child protection, with the hope of fostering a safer and more just environment for all vulnerable individuals in the province.
As discussions continue, both parties remain optimistic about the development of programs that align with the broader goals of community resilience and inclusive development.
